PM’s Relief Supplies Reach Swat as Govt Vows Swift Support for Flood Victims

Swat – Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam on Tuesday handed over large consignments of relief goods, sent on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to local authorities in Swat for distribution among families devastated by recent floods.

During his visit, Muqam met with survivors and assured them of full federal government support, stressing that the rehabilitation of affected communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) would remain a top priority.

“The scale of destruction is immense, particularly in Malakand division. This is not the time for politics; all of us, regardless of party lines, must work together to ease people’s suffering,” Muqam said.

Agriculture and Trade Among Worst Hit

The minister noted that the floods had wiped out crops and destroyed orchards of peaches and apples—major sources of livelihood in districts such as Swat, Shangla, and Buner. Local markets were also hit hard, with shopkeepers and traders suffering heavy financial losses after goods were swept away.

He said the government would ensure relief not only for displaced families but also for farmers and small businesses struggling to recover.

Relief Operations Under PM’s Supervision

Muqam highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was personally monitoring ongoing rescue and relief efforts in KP. Shipments of food, medical supplies, and other essentials are being dispatched to flood-stricken areas, with priority given to rescuing stranded families, treating the injured, and ensuring that no victim is left without assistance.

He praised the role of local communities, NGOs, and philanthropists for stepping in with aid, calling their response a crucial complement to government efforts.
