SADIQABAD – A deadly late-night assault on a police checkpost near Sadiqabad claimed the lives of five officers, prompting swift condemnation and strong words from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Labeling the attack as a “cowardly act carried out under the cover of darkness,” Naqvi praised the fallen officers for their courage in standing their ground against heavily armed bandits, believed to be from the notorious Kacha area—an expansive riverine region often used as a hideout by criminal gangs.
“These brave sons of the soil embraced martyrdom while performing their duty with unwavering resolve,” Naqvi said in an official statement issued Thursday. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of the government’s full support.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of attackers, but early reports suggest a coordinated assault by dacoits operating in the volatile region. The Kacha belt, which stretches across parts of southern Punjab and northern Sindh, has long been a security challenge due to its dense terrain and limited state presence.
The Interior Minister vowed that the sacrifice of the fallen officers would not go in vain. “The entire nation stands with our police force,” he stated, signaling that a robust response would follow to dismantle criminal networks emboldened by such ambushes.
Security forces have reportedly launched a search operation in the area, though no arrests have been confirmed as of yet.
