Fuel Prices Adjusted: Diesel, Kerosene, and LPG See Small Cuts

The federal government has announced new fuel prices for the first half of September, keeping petrol steady while trimming rates for diesel, kerosene, and LPG. The revised prices take effect from September 1, 2025.

Under the Finance Ministry’s latest notification, petrol stays at Rs 264.61 per litre, unchanged from last month. High-speed diesel, however, has been reduced by Rs 3 per litre, bringing its price to Rs 269.99. Light-speed diesel and kerosene have also seen modest price drops, now at Rs 159.76 and Rs 176.81 per litre, respectively.

Fuel Type New Price (per litre/kg) Change
Petrol (Super) Rs 264.61 No change
High-Speed Diesel Rs 269.99 – Rs 3
Light-Speed Diesel Rs 159.76 – Rs 2.40
Kerosene Oil Rs 176.81 – Rs 1.46
LPG Rs 214.20 per kg – Rs 1.17

LPG Rates Also Lowered

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has also cut LPG prices, setting the new rate at Rs 214.20 per kilogram. This adjustment reduces the cost of a standard domestic cylinder by Rs 14.36, dropping it from Rs 2,541.36 to Rs 2,527.

Background and Context

This marks the second consecutive review where petrol prices have been left untouched, while diesel has seen incremental cuts. Just two weeks ago, on August 16, diesel prices were slashed by Rs 12.84, taking the rate from Rs 285.83 to Rs 272.99 at the time.

Officials say the adjustments are in line with global oil price movements and aim to ease consumer pressure amid ongoing inflation concerns.
