US Commends Pakistan for Counterterrorism Achievements

ISLAMABAD – The United States has lauded Pakistan for its ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities both domestically and across the region. The recognition came after the latest round of the US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue, held in Islamabad on August 12, 2025.

In a joint statement following the talks, Washington expressed condolences for the lives lost in recent terrorist incidents, including the tragic Jaffar Express attack and the Khuzdar school bus bombing.

“The United States of America and Pakistan reaffirmed their shared commitment to countering terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” the statement read, highlighting the continued collaboration between the two countries.

Strengthening Strategic Counterterrorism Cooperation

The dialogue was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Special Secretary for the United Nations, Nabeel Munir, and U.S. Department of State Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Gregory D. LoGerfo. Both delegations stressed the need for robust strategies to tackle threats from groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The discussions also focused on building stronger institutional frameworks and improving Pakistan’s capabilities to respond to emerging security challenges, including the potential misuse of technology by terrorist organizations.

Multilateral Collaboration and Global Security

Both sides agreed that sustained engagement in international forums, including the United Nations, remains crucial to fostering enduring counterterrorism solutions. Analysts suggest that this structured approach reflects a broader commitment to regional stability, beyond immediate tactical gains.

Pakistan Welcomes US Designation of Terrorist Groups

On Tuesday, Pakistan welcomed the US decision to list the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its affiliate, the Majeed Brigade, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. Pakistan had previously proscribed the Majeed Brigade in July 2024, citing its involvement in high-profile attacks like the Jaffar Express bombing and the Khuzdar school bus incident.

Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting, “Our efforts have secured critical counterterrorism successes not only for Pakistan but also for regional and global security.”

The spokesperson reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to eliminating terrorism in all its forms and working closely with international partners to address this shared challenge.
