PAF Steps In as Floods Cut Off Gilgit-Baltistan Communities

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has launched an emergency relief mission in Gilgit-Baltistan after heavy floods left several valleys isolated and families stranded without access to essential supplies.

A C-130 transport aircraft flew from PAF Base Nur Khan to Gilgit, carrying nearly seven tons of food staples, medicines, and daily-use items. The delivery, made despite poor flying conditions and the region’s treacherous mountain terrain, is being distributed in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to ensure it reaches those trapped by damaged roads and communication links.

Alongside supply drops, the PAF also evacuated 75 people who had been cut off in disaster-hit areas. Officials said more airlifts and relief operations are planned in the coming days as part of a broader nationwide campaign to respond to this year’s flooding.

The operation underscores how vital military resources become in a region where rugged geography often makes civilian relief efforts slow or impossible. With food, shelter, and medicines already scarce, the speed of the PAF’s response has provided critical relief to affected families — and once again highlighted the military’s role as a first responder during national emergencies.
