Google Rolls Out AI-Powered Search in Pakistan

Google has officially launched its AI-powered search experience, branded as AI Mode, for users in Pakistan. The new feature is available in English and is designed to deliver faster, more nuanced answers to complex queries, marking a significant upgrade to traditional search.

A Smarter Way to Search

First introduced in the United States earlier this year, AI Mode is now being rolled out globally, with Pakistan among the latest markets to gain access. Powered by a specialized version of Gemini 2.5, the system allows users to type or speak longer, more detailed questions, reducing the need for multiple searches.

Google reports that test users are already submitting queries two to three times longer than traditional searches, indicating its usefulness for research-heavy and exploratory tasks. This includes everything from trip planning and shopping comparisons to solving complex academic problems.

For example, a user can now type:

“Planning a 5-day trip to Hunza. Suggest an itinerary that combines sightseeing, adventure, and local cuisine.”
AI Mode can then provide a detailed plan, complete with follow-up recommendations for restaurants or dishes.

How It Works Behind the Scenes

The system relies on a technique called query fan-out, which breaks down a single question into multiple smaller searches, crawling the web more deeply than before. It integrates Google’s ranking systems, Knowledge Graph, and live shopping data to ensure responses are not only accurate but also up-to-date.

When the AI lacks confidence in its answer, it defaults to showing traditional search results, helping users verify information.

Multimodal Capabilities

AI Mode isn’t limited to text-based searches. It’s designed to be multimodal, allowing users to search using voice, images, or even live photos through Google Lens.

For example, a shopper in a Karachi market could snap a picture of unknown spices and ask how they’re used in Pakistani cuisine. The system can then provide answers, recipes, and even product links in a conversational manner.

Opportunities for Content Creators

Google emphasizes that this new search experience is built not to replace traditional search but to make finding content easier. AI Mode’s ability to understand natural language queries more deeply could help users uncover niche content faster, creating new visibility opportunities for publishers and creators.

Availability in Pakistan

AI Mode is now live in Pakistan on both Android and iOS via the Google app, as well as on desktop and mobile web. While still in its early stages, the company says it will continue refining its responses and accuracy as more users adopt the tool.
